Dental Treatment
Emergency Dental Care
If you are in significant pain, have facial swelling, or have had a tooth knocked out, telephone the clinic rather than using the appointment form. Calling gets you a human; a form does not.
Some dental emergencies are genuinely time-critical. An adult tooth that has been knocked out stands the best chance if it is put back into its socket within minutes; kept dry for more than an hour, it is unlikely to survive. Spreading facial swelling needs to be seen the same day.

You might need this if…
- Severe toothache that pain relief is not controlling
- Swelling of the face, jaw or under the eye
- A tooth knocked out or pushed out of position
- A tooth broken with the nerve exposed
- Bleeding that will not stop after an extraction
- A dental abscess, or a bad taste with pus discharging
- A lost crown or filling with a sharp edge cutting your tongue
What happens, step by step
- 1
Call the clinic
Ring +91 73593 78421 and describe what has happened. We will tell you what to do immediately and when to come in.
- 2
First aid before you arrive
For a knocked-out adult tooth: hold it by the crown, never the root. If it is dirty, rinse it for no more than about ten seconds — cold running water, milk or saline are all fine for that — then, if you can, place it back in its socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it fully submerged in milk. Do not scrub it, do not let it dry out, and do not store it in water. Get here immediately. A child's milk tooth is the exception: do not put it back, because that can damage the adult tooth forming underneath — but still call us. For swelling, keep upright and come in.
- 3
Assessment on arrival
We identify the source, take a radiograph where needed, and prioritise getting the pain under control.
- 4
Immediate treatment
Usually this means draining an abscess, opening and dressing a tooth, smoothing a sharp edge or splinting a displaced tooth — enough to settle things safely the same day.
- 5
Definitive treatment
Once the acute problem is controlled, we plan the permanent repair and explain the cost before starting.
Frequently Asked Questions about Emergency Care
Do you see emergencies outside your normal hours?
We do our best to. Please telephone rather than turning up — a call lets us tell you whether we can see you, when, and what to do in the meantime.
My tooth has been knocked out. What do I do right now?
Pick it up by the crown, never the root. If it is dirty, rinse it for no more than about ten seconds — cold running water, milk or saline all work for that. Ideally put it straight back in its socket and bite gently on a clean cloth; if you cannot, keep it fully submerged in milk. Do not scrub it, do not let it dry out, and do not store it in water. Then get to us immediately: the outlook falls away sharply once the tooth has been out of the mouth and dry for more than an hour. A child's milk tooth is the exception — do not put it back, because that can damage the adult tooth developing underneath. Call us either way.
Can I just take a painkiller and wait?
Painkillers mask the symptom without treating the cause, and dental infections can spread. If there is facial swelling, do not wait — that needs to be seen the same day.
Will it cost more as an emergency?
We will tell you the cost before treating. Emergency visits are usually about settling the immediate problem, with the definitive work planned and quoted separately.
Aftercare & Recovery
Guidelines from Dr. Srushti Patel following your treatment:
- Take the full course of any antibiotic prescribed, even after the pain has gone.
- Come back for the definitive treatment. Pain settling does not mean the infection has been resolved.
- Go to a hospital emergency department instead if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling closing your eye, or a fever with confusion.
