What actually happens during a root canal
The same treatment, documented step by step. This is here so you can see what the procedure involves before agreeing to it — not as a showcase of the result.

These are real clinical photographs and radiographs. They show decay, the inside of a tooth and a small amount of blood. If you find such images difficult, there is nothing here you need to see in order to understand the treatment — the written description covers it.
1. The radiograph at the first visit. The dark area shows decay that has reached the soft tissue in the centre of the tooth — which is why it had started to hurt at night.
2. The same tooth through the intraoral camera. Magnified on the chairside screen, the extent of the cavity is obvious in a way it never is in a mirror.
3. A mirror view of the upper arch, used to check the neighbouring teeth and the gum before starting.
4. A working-length radiograph taken during treatment. The fine instruments confirm we are cleaning to the exact end of each root — too short leaves infection behind, too long causes pain.
5. Isolation and a bite block, so the tooth stays clean and dry and the jaw can rest rather than be held open.
6. After completion, with the zirconia crown fitted. A root-treated back tooth is more brittle than a healthy one, so the crown is what stops it splitting later.
