Dentures & Full Mouth Rehabilitation

When many teeth are missing, worn down or failing, the work has to be planned as a whole rather than tooth by tooth. That means deciding on the bite, the height of the teeth and how the whole thing will be supported before any permanent work starts.

Options run from a conventional removable denture, through a partial denture that clasps onto remaining teeth, to a denture anchored on implants so it does not move. Implant-supported dentures cost considerably more but solve the looseness that is the usual complaint with a lower denture.

Symptoms & Indications

You might need this if…

  • Several or all teeth missing in an arch
  • An existing denture that is loose, painful or no longer fits
  • Difficulty chewing, or avoiding foods you used to eat
  • Teeth worn very short from grinding or from acid
  • A collapsed bite, or changes to the shape of the lower face
  • Multiple failing teeth and crowns needing a plan rather than piecemeal repair
Clinical Workflow

What happens, step by step

  1. 1

    Full assessment

Examination, radiographs, photographs and a record of how your jaws actually meet. For complex cases we also assess the joint and any grinding habit.

  2. 2

    Planning and sequencing

We agree what is being kept, what has to go, and in what order — including a phased plan with costs by stage if the whole thing is not affordable at once.

  3. 3

    Preparatory treatment

Gum treatment, extractions and any root canals are completed and allowed to heal first. Permanent work built on an unstable foundation fails.

  4. 4

    Trial stage

For dentures and larger rebuilds, a wax or temporary trial lets you see and test the shape, shade and bite before anything is finalised. This is when to speak up about the appearance.

  5. 5

    Fitting and adjustment

New dentures almost always need adjusting over the first few weeks as the tissues settle. This is expected, not a sign something went wrong.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Dentures & Full Mouth Rehab

How long until I get used to a new denture?

Usually a few weeks. Speech and eating feel odd at first and improve with practice. Expect two or three adjustment appointments in the first month — that is part of the process.

Why does my lower denture move so much?

A lower denture has much less ridge and suction to hold onto than an upper, and the tongue works against it. Two implants can convert a loose lower denture into a stable one, and it is the single most effective fix for this complaint.

Can everything be done in one go?

Full mouth rehabilitation is deliberately staged, both so healing can happen between phases and so the cost can be spread. We will give you the full sequence and the cost of each stage upfront.

Will people be able to tell?

Well-made dentures are made to suit your face rather than to look uniformly white and even. The trial stage exists precisely so you can judge the appearance before it is finalised.

Aftercare & Recovery

Guidelines from Dr. Srushti Patel following your treatment:

  • Take dentures out at night and store them in water or the solution we recommend.
  • Clean them daily with a denture brush and soap, not abrasive toothpaste.
  • Clean your gums and any remaining teeth as carefully as before.
  • Come back to have sore spots adjusted rather than enduring them or filing the denture yourself.
  • Have the fit reviewed yearly — the underlying ridge changes shape over time.
