Orthodontic treatment
Braces & Clear Aligners
Orthodontic treatment moves teeth into a better position over months, using gentle continuous force. It is done for appearance, but also because crowded and misaligned teeth are harder to clean and wear unevenly.
There are three common routes: metal braces, tooth-coloured ceramic braces, and removable clear aligners. Aligners are the least visible and can be taken out to eat, but they only work if they are actually worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. If that is not realistic for you, fixed braces will get a better result.

What happens, step by step
- 1
Records and diagnosis
Photographs, radiographs and impressions or a scan. These let us measure what is actually happening in the bite rather than working from appearance alone.
- 2
Treatment plan
We show you what can realistically be achieved, roughly how long it will take, whether any teeth need removing to make space, and what each option costs.
- 3
Fitting
Braces are bonded to the teeth, or your first set of aligners is issued with attachments placed where needed.
- 4
Adjustment visits
Every four to six weeks for braces; aligners are changed at home on a schedule with reviews between. Progress is checked against the plan at each visit.
- 5
Retainers
Teeth drift back towards where they started. Retainers are not optional — they are what makes the result last, and they are needed long-term.
Frequently Asked Questions about Braces & Aligners
Am I too old for braces?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age provided the gums and supporting bone are healthy. Adult treatment is common. Where there is existing gum disease, that has to be treated and stable first.
Braces or clear aligners?
Aligners are far less visible and removable, but depend entirely on you wearing them. Fixed braces are always working and handle complex movements more predictably. We will tell you honestly which is better suited to your case.
How long will it take?
Commonly somewhere between six and twenty-four months. Mild crowding can be quick; correcting the bite takes longer. You will get an estimate specific to your case at the planning visit.
Will I need teeth removed?
Sometimes, where there is not enough room to align the teeth without it. Often not. We will only recommend it if the alternative would compromise the result, and we will explain why.
Aftercare & Recovery
Guidelines from Dr. Srushti Patel following your treatment:
- With braces, avoid hard and sticky food; clean around each bracket after every meal.
- With aligners, wear them 20 to 22 hours a day and only drink water while they are in.
- Wear your retainers exactly as instructed — relapse is common and largely preventable.
- Keep up your six-monthly checks and cleaning throughout treatment.
